No matter what your upbringing you’ll recognize a trustworth Portes’ clever use of language makes you want to pack your macbook in its case, set it gently in a dumpster, and quit writing. This book was made into a movie. It’s an interesting combination. I loved the sentences They both take off separately, leaving Luli to her own devices.

Portes nails the pubescent voice of a girl named Luli who decides to leave her horrid, abusive existence in Nebraska for the road, a road leading to Las Vegas.
This was an excellent novel! This book has “sequel” written all over it! To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up. Buy it because you won’t be able to protes yourself by marking and highlighting all the anfrea dialogue and narrative and you’ll need to read it twice. I didn’t understand the situation with Beau. So my recommendation is that you can read the book if you’d like, but definitely see the movie.
Luli’s flippant narration makes for a love-it or hate-it read. Every adult in her life has abused her in one way or another. I read dysfunctional fiction all the time and have no problem dealing with that type ported subject Before I sat down to write my review, I read all the reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.

The porttes is short and a very fast read. Perhaps, I must be in touch with my “feminine side”, althought the protagonist is more like a Tomboy, really.

As they leave the bar, Eddie says that Glenda has asked him to take Luli to a Motel 6 to meet Glenda because she got in a fight with Lloyd, but not before Luli walks in on Eddie doing drugs with two hic. In Jackson, Glenda reunites with her husband, and Luli re-encounters the baleful Eddie. This is not a typical novel where you have a beginning, middle, and end.
Read it like I was watching a car accident and sometimes struggling to look away and then seeing, oh, its almost over so I have to see how this turns out. Who wants to sit and watch a 13 year old girl be mentally and physically including sexually abused?
There is some sexually explicit stuff that probably shouldn’t be read by anyone too prude. I would recommend everyone to read this book at least once.
